The Light for August 15, 2023

By Myra Janus

President Bryant Wallace welcomed members to the meeting and Jose Lopez read our Land Acknowledgment.

Thought for the day by Susan Prout – A chant for Moon Day, which is today – “Summer where the days are long and the nights are longer”. It is also “Lemon Meringue Pie Day” and “Stop and Smell the Roses Day”. With that she begs us to sign up to present the Thought for the Day.

Announcements

Bill Glader reminded members that many TOE costs (tents, tables, chairs, floral, music, wine, printed materials) have historically been underwritten by club members.  If you’re interested in helping support TOE by picking up a portion of these costs, please look for a future email, outlining the options and explaining the sign-up process. He also stressed the importance of selling tickets for the event. Georgia Vlahos is in charge of raffle ticket sales. The prices are $10 each or 3 for $25.

Dan Coyne and Bruce Baumberger are coordinating volunteers using sign-up.com. This will be launched in the next week. Please communicate with Jose Lopez about tasks that should be included on the sign-up list.
Please contact Bill about possible sponsorships.
More postcards are available.

Ann Weatherhead drew attention to her announcement that we received on Club Runner about the canned food drive for clients of Connections for the Homeless. Details are included in the Club Runner email that she sent out on Monday.

Ekram Hanna announced that there will be a Middle East Festival at Warren Park in Chicago on August 19 and 20, from noon to 6 p.m.  Please consider attending or volunteering at this fun event, featuring food, culture, music and dance from the Middle East, sponsored by MIRA (the Middle Eastern Immigration and Refugee Alliance).

Ann Searles announced that Brien Johnson will be having surgery. Brien corrected that to say that he will be meeting with his surgeon soon. Ann also mentioned Ladies at the Beach Day on August 31 and will give details later.
